Overview

Taking Our Best Shot is a Galveston-based effort that aims to promote public health, provide resources, combat disinformation, and boost community wellness. Their ultimate focus is geared toward inspiring the youth and participating in events like infographic challenges to help educate the younger generations.

My Role

This newly established team needed a variety of assets to help support its launch into the public. This included a new look, a place to house all of their content, and a refreshed method to become self-sufficient in creating media assets. I created and provided a new brand made from scratch, a website, as well as easy-to-use social media and flyer templates in Canva.

This project was a collaborative effort with Melanie Connolly, who acted as a design consultant and assisted in the building of the website.

The Brand Identity

The Logo

The logo is a combination of the items and icons you generally see in the medical field (“+” sign, a stethoscope, and a heart). I added some depth with an extra layer of color to play into the multitude of things Taking Our Best Shot is involved in.

Fonts

Montserrat is both casual and bold, while Source Serif Pro comes in with a more educational look and feel. I wanted to reflect what you’d see in a school textbook for a sense of familiarity, but add in a softness so it’s less intimidating.

Color Palette

The color palette uses blues, commonly used in the medical field, but also incorporates accent colors like orange and green to liven things up a bit.

Icons

The icons will be used as visual aids to help illustrate the content being presented and infuse some of the quirky but casual moods that the brand upholds.

Promotional Template Assets

Powerpoint Template

Taking Our Best Shot has attended several events, and with its prominent growth over the last year, will definitely attend many more. To support their presentations, I created a PowerPoint template that visually supports the brand and allows the team to add content with ease. It contains opening slides, speaker introduction slides, “central idea” slides, break/poll slides, and data input slides.

Social Media Templates

Below is one of a few templates made to assist in the creation of future social content.

Event Flyer Templates

Informational handouts are a must when it comes to spreading information at events. These help with targeting select information that helps guests digest crucial information about a group or business.

Website

The central focus of the website is to convey a few key pieces: who Taking Our Best Shot is, the things that they do, and where you can find them. The home page serves as a launching point to access all three central points.

You can see the full website at TakingOurBestShot.org

note: some design elements have changed after the handover to the client

Website Thumbnails

These thumbnails are another Canva option that allows for future customization. Below are the ones I’d created to start with.

Identifying Event Types

Using Squarespace, I was only able to link one event page to a calendar, so I needed to consolidate all “event types” onto one event page. I wanted to find a way callout the three main types of events so a user could easily navigate to what they were specifically looking for.

Big Catch

This is the first image seen on the website, so I wanted it to take on its own form by encapsulating all that Taking Our Best Shot has in store.
